What a Typical Tutoring Session Looks Like

Sessions are generally 60 minutes and are tailored to meet the student’s individual goals and needs.

  • For struggling or reluctant readers, sessions may include fluency practice, vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, and organized writing.

  • For students needing executive function support, sessions may focus on identifying and prioritizing assignments, breaking down larger projects, and executing focused work periods.

  • For students seeking advanced or independent studies, we may read and discuss analytical articles on a chosen topic or texts by a selected author, edit creative writing projects, or do a deep dive into a science topic of their choice.

  • For students under 18, parents and caregivers are always invited to be a part of all or any session, and I especially encourage them to join the last 5 minutes of the session so their student can recap the learning, progress and goals for in between sessions.

The goal of each session is for the student to walk away feeling less stressed, more empowered, and genuinely excited by their new learning.

My goal as a tutor is to teach strategies and content that enable each learner to become skilled, independent and self-sufficient, ultimately working beyond the need for a tutor!
